One Piece is just so amazing that a heard of leaping, happy whalesharks isn't strange, isn't a terrible plot contrivance--it just works. You don't question it the same way you don't question how the main character is a "rubber man," or how a man fights with a sword in his teeth, or hardly anything. It's just...it's just amazing. I promise, get to Arlong Park and if you're not hooked, then it's fair to say One Piece isn't for you.

Though I'll cry if that's the case.

I'm torn, because I want to now see what the hell this is all about, but the size of what's out combined with the height of the stack of books I have from the library is making me pause (500-some chapters is...a lot).

Y-yeah. I don't blame you, as it IS a lot. And I'll be honest and say I skipped a lengthy flashback-100-years-in-the-past or whatever, BUT! You can work on it a little bit each day!

Oh my god, they are SO HAPPY.

I actually watched the animated series once, and they made a joke about a bipolar polar bear. I am heavily considering reading the manga.

I saw some of the dub, and a couple subbed episodes but I am a manga girl at heart. It is awesome and worth it.

I started reading Once Piece finally a month or so ago, and WHY DID I NOT DO THIS EARLIER??? Wow, is it good. I stopped because the place I was downloading it from didn't have anymore of it, so thanks for the link! I am really super excited about those whale sharks!!
